Do you know how perceptive you are? Try this experiment to find out.

Quickly read the following sentence:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF MANY YEARS.

Now count aloud the “F’s” in that sentence.
Only count them once.
Do not go back and count them again.
DO NOT read anymore below until you count the “F’s” above.

How many did you find?
Here, I’ll let you count them again:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF MANY YEARS.

How many “F’s” did you find that time?
Was it the same number?
Scroll down for the answer.

WOULD YOU BELIEVE ME IF I
TOLD YOU THERE WERE SIX “F’s”

Don’t believe me?
Read it again.

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF MANY YEARS.

See, I wouldn’t lie to you, there’s six.
Now be honest, how many did you find the first time?
And the second time?

And why do you care? Let’s see what your score means

  • If you found three your sense of perception is absolutely normal. Way to go!
  • If you found four, your sense of perception is outstanding. You may now give yourself a pat on the back.
  • If you found five, you have exceptional perception! Hold your hand against the screen to receive your high-five from Bryan.
  • If you found all six, (and you haven’t participated in this experiment before) you are a GENIUS! Or more precisely, one seriously observant individual. Nothing gets past you! You would make a dream witness!

If you did not score as a genius, don’t be discouraged. The reason has nothing do do with you, personally. It is faulty wiring in our brains. This is really bizarre, but the human brain tends to register the letter “F” in the word “OF” as a “V” instead of an “F”. This is thought to be because the word “OF” is pronounced “OV” like in “OVEN” not “OF” like in “OFTEN”. That sound of course we spell “OFF”. No wonder people have such a difficult time learning the English language!
